In addition to the signatories of the agreement, the talks were attended by dr hab. Marcin Marciniak, prof. UG, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, dr hab. Edward Juchniewicz, prof. UG from the Faculty of Law and Administration, and dr hab. Arkadiusz Modrzejewski, prof. UG, Director of the Institute of Political Science, who initiated cooperation with prof. Chan. Prof. M. Marciniak proposed to support student exchanges between the two universities as soon as possible. He was also interested in cooperation in the exchange of technological ideas, including in the area of smart cities. Prof. A. Modrzejewski saw opportunities for involving specialists in the social sciences and humanities in the cooperation.

‘Expanding AI research to include a social component, e.g. legal, philosophical and ethical issues and the social perception of artificial intelligence, may increase the chances of obtaining grants to finance joint research projects,’ believes prof. A. Modrzejewski.

Prof. Chan expressed his great satisfaction with his visit to the University of Gdańsk and with the prospects for academic cooperation: ‘Poland is becoming an increasingly important economic partner for South Korea. We believe that cooperation in the AI sector will play a key role. Hence, the joint activities that have just been initiated fit perfectly into the framework of the partnership between our two countries.’
