ASA UG Women’s Handball Team Wins Polish Academic Championship!
Gold medal for the ASA UG handball players at the Polish Academic Handball Championship finals in Opole! During an extremely demanding and thrilling final match on May 24, the players from the University of Gdańsk faced off against the team from the University of Radom and won in spectacular fashion, claiming the title of Polish Academic Champions. Additionally, our team’s goalkeeper, Oliwia Suliga, was named the tournament’s best goalkeeper! In the men’s competition, the UG team ultimately placed 11th in the overall standings and 6th in the university category. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to both teams and their coaches!
'This was my first Polish Academic Championship, and I have to admit that in a very short time we managed to build a really great team,' said our team’s goalkeeper Oliwia Suliga, who plays in the ORLEN Superliga on a daily basis, in an interview for pasja.asa.pl. 'I’ve become very close with the girls, and no matter what tournament we’re playing in, I always want to show my best side. But what matters most to me is that the whole team performs at its best. I always strive for the highest goals, which is why I’m so happy about this gold medal.'
The AMP handball final tournament was of a very high standard, partly because it featured many league players, including those from the ORLEN Superliga, which is the top tier of league competition in Poland. However, the ASA UG players proved to be unbeatable!
The team’s coach is Bartłomiej Pepliński. The team of our gold medalists consists of: Kinga Bachurska, Dagmara Bajtek, Maja Boneczko, Daria Cieślak, Izabela Dajczak, Zuzanna Dulińska, Weronika Dzadz, Joanna Graban, Kinga Komosa, Zuzanna Kopik, Kaja Kuśpiet, Paulina Peplińska, Oliwia Suliga, Oliwa Szczepaniak, Zofia Szudra-Roszko, and Weronika Zegarlicka.
Our men’s team, led by coach Sebastian Suchowicz, also competed in Opole. After advancing from the group stage in 3rd place, they ultimately finished 11th in the overall standings and 6th in the UNI category. Congratulations and thank you for the wonderful sporting excitement!
