A significant challenge facing Poland and the European Union as a whole is to enhance innovation across various sectors. Patent attorneys are professional representatives who help protect intellectual property, especially inventions and utility models.

Dr Krzysztof Czub, assistant professor at the Department of Civil Law at the Faculty of Law and Administration, has been elected Dean of the Pomeranian District of the Polish Chamber of Patent Attorneys for the 2025-2029 term.

The Polish Chamber of Patent Attorneys is a professional association of patent attorneys and patent attorney trainees. The profession of patent attorney is a profession of public trust, which involves providing assistance in matters relating to obtaining and enforcing protection for inventions, utility models, industrial designs, trademarks, as well as protecting works under copyright law and combating unfair competition.

It is significant that in recent years, the main driving force behind innovation in Poland has been entities from the higher education and science system, in particular universities, research institutes and scientific institutes of the PAS. Professional representatives, including patent attorneys, play an important role in assisting applicants, including universities, entities from the business sector and individual creators, in the process of patenting technical solutions,’ emphasises dr Krzysztof Czub, Dean of the Pomeranian District of the Polish Chamber of Patent Attorneys. ‘Patent attorneys cooperate with technology transfer offices and other entities responsible for the evaluation and commercialisation of intellectual property in the higher education and science sector. More than half of the applications for inventions and utility models in Poland come from higher education and science institutions. Five universities are currently among the top 10 Polish applicants for European inventions. In 2023, the University of Gdańsk ranked 6th in this ranking. The above examples prove the need for close cooperation between universities and other entities of the higher education and science system with their professional environment, including in particular patent attorneys,' adds dr Krzysztof Czub.

The Assembly of Patent Attorneys of the Pomeranian District of the Polish Chamber of Patent Attorneys was held on May 21. As a result of the elections, dr Krzysztof Czub, assistant professor at the Department of Civil Law, was elected Dean of the Pomeranian District of the PCPA and will chair the District Council of Patent Attorneys in Gdańsk for the 2025-2029 term.

Congratulations!
