What skills will MIPMAL graduates acquire? Which universities co-created Sea-BluE? And how was STORM tailored to the labour market? These are just a few of the questions answered by the co-creators of joint study programmes at the University of Gdańsk. On 28 May, during a special event entitled ‘Discover SEA-EU Joint Study Programmes’, experts from the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Management presented the flagship initiative of the maritime alliance.

The event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Management, dr hab. Angelika Kędzierska-Szczepaniak, prof. UG, who emphasised that the joint programmes are the result of many years of international cooperation between SEA-EU universities. The alliance's English-language offer is based on mobility, the acquisition of practical skills and the preparation of graduates for the labour market. All courses have received international accreditation.

Marcel Jakubowski from the European University of the Seas Project Office spoke about the SEA-EU alliance of maritime universities and the opportunities it offers to UG students. This was followed by speeches from researchers from the Faculties of Economics and Management, who co-created Sea-BluE, MIPMAL and STORM.

prof. Anna Dziadkiewicz

‘Seven European universities are participating in Sea-BluE, including the University of Gdańsk and universities from Spain, Croatia, Italy, Portugal, France and Norway,’ said Vice-Dean for Internationalisation and Development of the Faculty of Economics and Management, dr hab. Anna Dziadkiewicz, prof. UG. ‘These are studies focused on the development of the blue economy, but don't be fooled into thinking that this project is only about oceanography. The initiative was created at our Faculties of Economics and Management. Our goal was to make you much more competitive on the job market after completing this programme.’

Enrolment for Sea-BluE begins on 2 June. It is the only first-cycle programme on offer that opens the door to many different maritime-related industries. Among the specialisations available to students in their final year are Accounting, management and planning; Protection and sustainable use of marine resources; and Sustainable port and tourist cities. prof. Przemysław Borkowski

‘What skills will MIPMAL students gain? At the end of this programme, you will be able to manage complex logistics processes in port environments and make strategic decisions. You will understand the economic and legal constraints of these decisions. You will also understand the trends and developments in maritime logistics. And finally, to put it simply, you will be ready to work in any port-related company,’ said dr hab. Przemysław Borkowski, prof. UG.

MIPMAL studies are a gateway to a career in maritime logistics and port management, where there is a growing demand for qualified specialists. Thanks to the practical path, graduates have one foot in the maritime economy even before they receive their diploma.

Ports are waiting for specialists – maybe you are one of them?

dr Aleksandra Koszarek-Cyra

‘We began developing this programme by meeting with entrepreneurs. We asked them what skills they look for in their employees, i.e. our future graduates. The feedback from this focus group of business representatives really shaped the content of the programme,’ added dr Aleksandra Koszarek-Cyra. 'The joint SEA-EU programmes are a response to the voice of business. We have designed the learning outcomes so that those of you who decide to enrol on this programme will acquire the skills that employers have identified as necessary.

Sustainability Transition for Organisations and Resilience Management (STORM) prepares students to manage sustainable development and skilfully navigate institutions in dynamically changing times. The programme is inspired by the sea and draws on the knowledge and experience of lecturers from six universities in the SEA-EU coastal alliance. STORM is a programme for people who want to become conscious, prepared managers and leaders of sustainable transformation in companies.

Do you want to have a real impact on the sustainable future of companies and institutions? Start with STORM.

After the presentation of the joint study programmes, participants had the opportunity to learn more about the English-language offer at stands prepared by the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Management.
