The University of Gdańsk has been recognised in the catalogue ‘Success Stories from the Research Management Community’ published by the European Commission. This publication presents the best practices of institutions from across Europe that support the development of scientific research, the professionalisation of management processes and the internationalisation of science in an innovative and effective manner.
The University of Gdańsk was presented as one of the first universities in Poland to implement the HR Excellence in Research Strategy successfully. Research managers at our university play an important role in supporting the research culture, both locally and through international cooperation, including the one within the SEA-EU - European University of the Seas alliance. Thanks to these activities, UG actively contributes to strengthening the recognition of Polish science on the international arena.
Our commitment to the development of professional research management has also been recognised within the RM ROADMAP project, a pan-European initiative supporting the development of science managers' competences as a key element of the research system. This project promotes the recognition and development of this professional group as an integral part of scientific excellence and effective management of research institutions. The University of Gdańsk is actively involved in this process - dr Katarzyna Świerk, Director of the Science Office and UG Plenipotentiary for Open Access, representing our university, is an ambassador for the RM ROADMAP project, supporting the exchange of experiences and the development of the European research management community.
‘Today, professional research management is not an addition to science, but its essential backbone. I am glad that the University of Gdańsk is part of this change in Europe,’ emphasises dr Katarzyna Świerk.
