The Fulbright Junior Research Award is a grant for individuals preparing their doctoral dissertations at Polish academic institutions. It enables them to carry out their own research project at an American university, non-profit research institute or non-governmental organisation in the USA. One of the winners of this prestigious programme for the year 2025/2026 is Mgr Kinga Konieczna from the Department of Private International Law of the Chair of Civil Law at the University of Gdańsk.
As part of the scholarship, Kinga Konieczna will spend the coming academic year on a 7-month research stay at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., United States of America, where she will conduct research for her doctoral dissertation.
The Fulbright Programme is the largest academic and cultural exchange programme in the United States. It was established in 1946 at the initiative of American Senator J. William Fulbright, who sought to foster peace and international relations through the exchange of knowledge and the integration of academic and cultural communities worldwide. The primary objective of the programme is to foster cooperation in the advancement of science and culture, as well as to promote relations and dialogue between the United States and over 160 other countries. The Fulbright Programme has been operating in Poland since 1959.
The latest edition of the Fulbright Junior Research Award (for which applications closed on 6 September 2024) attracted 54 doctoral students. The competition procedure included a substantive evaluation of the project (prepared by three independent experts) and an interview with the applicants who received the highest scores. Ultimately, the Polish-American Fulbright Commission awarded seven nominations for the Junior Research Award and one nomination for the Fulbright Research Award at Stanford University School of Medicine.
We congratulate Mgr. Kinga Konieczna on receiving this prestigious grant and wish her fruitful research work!
