The University of Gdańsk's internal competition for the implementation of joint research projects by scientists from universities belonging to the SEA-EU consortium has ended. The aim of the initiative was, m.in, to support short-term research trips within the alliance.
A total of 13 projects were awarded funding, which will result in 26 individual mobilities to be carried out in 2025–2026. The winning proposals were submitted by representatives of seven UG faculties, covering both the natural and exact sciences as well as the humanities and social sciences. The projects involve collaboration with SEA-EU partner universities in Norway, Spain, Croatia, Portugal, Germany, and Malta.
Scientific research under the funded projects concerns, among others:
- biotechnological use of algae and blue bioeconomy,
- development of Generation Z competences on the labour market,
- valuation of green areas in cities and sustainable ESG reporting,
- protecting migrants' rights and policies at the EU's borders;
- dyslexia and language disorders in children,
- cultural heritage and Roman epigraphy,
- the role of water as a cultural motif in Scandinavian literature.
Many of the selected projects are directly in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the mission of SEA-EU as a European coastal university, supporting, m.in others, cross-border cooperation, inclusiveness, openness of science, development of competences of the future and social responsibility of researchers.
Thanks to the funding obtained, UG researchers will be able to establish or deepen international cooperation, prepare joint publications and grant applications, and enrich their teaching programmes with new content resulting from their research.
The initiative is implemented as part of the project "Support for synergistic and complementary activities of the SEA-EU 2.0 – SEA-nergy project", which is part of the NAWA programme "Support for European University alliances" from European Funds for Social Development.
