It may seem that the world around us is silent – nothing could be further from the truth! Looking closely, you can discover that everything is shouting, sending signals, wanting to communicate something. From cells, through the plant world, to animals – everything wants to convey something, signal something and read something! Don't believe it? Come to the Faculty of Biology at the University of Gdańsk on 16 January 2026 and take part in the 15th Night of Biologists!
Over 200 biologists - researchers, doctoral students and students of the Faculty of Biology at the University of Gdańsk - will talk about their research and passions, reveal the secrets of laboratories and breeding, show what is invisible on a daily basis and explain what is a mystery. You will be able to look into the world of plants, animals, protozoa, bacteria and viruses, as well as see what goes on in the human mind and body!
Biologists' Night will start at 3 p.m. and last until 11:30 p.m. The programme includes numerous lectures, workshops, games and educational stands. You will be able to see how cells constantly communicate with each other, learn why birds sing, and in a special darkened zone, you will have the opportunity to enter the extraordinary world of bioluminescence and see Photobacterium bacteria, which communicate with the world... through light.
Many other attractions await participants! The event is open to everyone, regardless of age – all you need is curiosity about the world and a desire to learn what the biological microcosm hides from us. Please note that some items on the programme end earlier.
The full programme of the Biologists' Night can be found here: Biologists' Night.
Once again, the Gdańsk Zoo and the Gdynia Aquarium MIR - PIB will also join the event, allowing visitors to observe their charges at night.
