A barrage of beautiful goals, wonderful weather, mutual kindness, but also the spirit of sportsmanship - all this accompanied the participants of the traditional football match of graduates of the University of Gdańsk! This year's meeting was part of the celebrations of the 55th anniversary of the University of Gdańsk.
‘The final score is absolutely secondary here. What matters is having fun and the fact that, despite the passing of time, the love for football remains strong,’ says Mariusz Kinda, who has been running the men's football and futsal section of ASA UG continuously since 1986 (currently in tandem with coach Wojciech Pawicki, also a UG graduate and former player of the section). ‘I am very happy that despite our busy schedules, we meet every year and reminisce about beautiful football moments. I must admit that you could write many books from these memories,’ adds the employee of the Centre for Physical Education and Sport with a smile.
This year, two teams took to the field and, objectively speaking, the level of the match was really high. ‘Maybe we're not as dynamic as we used to be, but you can see that most of the players still have their motor skills intact. The fans appreciated the quality of the football and the multitude of well-coordinated moves. In addition, there were 14 beautiful goals - some of which would have been the highlight of many matches at a major tournament,’ notes Tomasz Aftański, Director of the CPES UG. ‘This is a wonderful initiative and I am glad that I was able to participate in it this year. We will try not only to maintain it, but also to expand it. After all, we are united by football and wonderful memories of representing the University of Gdańsk in academic competitions. I would like to thank Mariusz and Wojtek for their involvement in organising this year's match.’
The match was accompanied by a friendly get-together, for which we would like to thank the sponsors and partners of the event. The participants have declared their willingness to play a rematch, so there is a goal to stay in shape. So, see you next year!
