A trip to a science festival held in Brest in the spring awaits the winner of the ‘Very Big Data!’ competition organised by the University of Western Brittany in France! What do you need to do? Simply prepare a project that presents scientific data in an original way and submit it by 30 November 2025. The winning projects will be printed in a format of up to 15 m² and displayed in Europe's largest public square, Des Capucins.

The University of Brest (UBO) invites students, researchers and academics from SEA-EU partner universities to participate in the ‘(Very) Big Data!’ competition, which will be the highlight of the RESSAC festival dedicated to science, art and everything in between. The festival will take place in Brest from 10 to 14 March 2026.

Monumental exhibition: ‘(Very) Big Data!’

As part of the 4th edition of the festival in 2026, UBO is organising a monumental exhibition entitled ‘(Very) Big Data!’, which will feature giant images of scientific data. Selected works will be printed in a format of up to 15 m² and exhibited for a month at Les Capucins, an iconic cultural venue in Brest and the largest covered public square in Europe. The exhibition aims not only to popularise science, but also to increase the visibility of the SEA-EU alliance.

The works for the exhibition will be selected through a competition open to all students, researchers and academic teachers from SEA-EU universities. Participants from the University of Gdańsk whose entries are selected will have the opportunity to see their works printed in a format of up to 15m2 at the RESSAC Science Festival, which will take place between 10 and 14 March in Brest. Funding for the participation of up to two people is provided. If more than two works from the University of Gdańsk qualify for the exhibition, the authors of the two highest-rated works will receive funding for the trip.

What kind of works can be submitted?

Participants are asked to submit original visualisations of scientific data in the form of graphs, infographics, models or other forms. The following are not accepted: images taken with conventional cameras or scientific instruments (microscopes, telescopes, satellites, drones, etc.). Detailed information on the guidelines can be found on the organiser's website.

The RESSAC Festival is dedicated to everything that lies at the intersection of science and art. Through concerts, exhibitions, theatre performances, dance performances, radio productions, writing workshops and meetings, the festival presents scientific research in an original and engaging way, encouraging dialogue between scientists, artists and the public.
