Announcement regarding the mLegitymacja and the electronic student ID card

We encourage all students with a PESEL number to use mLegitymacja, a secure, modern and free tool available in the mObywatel app. Activating mLegitymacja does not require submitting an application – you simply need to meet a few conditions to quickly and easily obtain a document confirming your student status.

Due to the late publication of an amendment to the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education on studies, concerning student ID cards (ELS), the form used to personalise the ELS (for its issue) has changed.

Consequently, most universities in Poland, including the University of Gdańsk, will not be able to issue the ELS to students at the start of the academic year. ID cards will only be issued once the new forms have been delivered and personalised, which will not be before the end of October.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused. The delay is due to circumstances beyond the control of the University of Gdańsk.

mLegitymacja

The requirements for obtaining the QR code, which enables the use of mLegitymacja, are as follows:

  1. holding a PESEL number;
  2. having the mObywatel app;
  3. signing the oath in the eUczelnia system;
  4. uploading a photograph that meets the requirements for an ID card and having it approved – further information on the photograph requirements can be found at:

PLEASE NOTE: if a photograph meeting the requirements mentioned above has already been uploaded to the IRK (Online Candidate Registration) system, there is no need to upload it again.

Electronic student ID card (ELS)

Who is it for?

The following are eligible to receive an ELS:

  1. students without a PESEL number,
  2. any other student who wishes to use the ELS – following submission of an application.

What do you need to do to receive an ELS?

PLEASE NOTE: if a photograph meeting the requirements mentioned above has already been uploaded to the IRK (Online Candidate Registration) system, there is no need to upload it again.

  • pay the fee (22 zł) to the bank account number specified on the Student Portal (https://ps2.ug.edu.pl), held in Polish zlotys

PLEASE NOTE: if you do not pay the ELS fee within 30 days of submitting your application, your application will be automatically rejected

Graduates of first-cycle programmes

ELS cards issued to first-cycle graduates are valid until 31 October 2026. Due to a change in the regulations, it will not be possible to extend their validity whilst studying for a second-cycle degree.

Any student commencing a second-cycle degree who wishes to obtain an ELS card must submit an application via the eUczelnia system in accordance with the rules set out above.

Students continuing their studies

All students who are continuing their studies and who hold an ELS may continue to use it, and the validity of the card will be extended under the existing rules at the relevant dean’s office.
