The University of Gdańsk, together with European universities from the coastal regions of the SEA-EU alliance, has created a range of joint degree programmes in English. The innovative, interdisciplinary and mobility-based curricula are tailored to the needs of the labour market in maritime industries - from port management to the blue economy and oceanographic research. The joint programmes of the SEA-EU alliance are Sea-BluE, STORM, MIPMAL, and the interdisciplinary doctoral programme M&MS&T. The first students will start their studies this year!

This is a completely unique offer, providing students with several months of mobility and classes taught by scientists from several European universities. The interdisciplinary study programmes, extensive experience of partner universities, modern infrastructure, activating teaching methods and focus on practical aspects of education provide students of joint courses with competences and experience valued not only on the Polish but also the European labour market,’ said UG Vice-Rector for Education dr Ewa Szymczak, prof. UG. ‘The optimistic comments and positive assessment of the accreditation committee members from France, Spain and Croatia are therefore not surprising.’

The educational offer of the SEA-EU alliance includes the following fields of study:

  • Sustainable Blue Economy (Sea-BluE) - bachelor's degree;
  • Port Management and Logistics (MIPMAL) - master's degree;
  • Sustainability Transition for Organisations and Resilience Management (STORM) - second cycle degree programme;
  • Marine and Maritime Sciences and Technologies - doctoral programme

All programmes have received international accreditation, which guarantees their recognition throughout Europe. Completing the SEA-EU joint degree programme alone results in obtaining a joint degree from the European University. The accrediting institutions emphasised the interdisciplinary nature of the programmes, the high quality of the materials provided to students, the excellent teaching staff and the wide range of specialisations on offer.

It was also emphasised that the joint degree programmes are well-suited to the current needs of the labour market. The content of the courses in all subjects was discussed with representatives from the business world to ensure that graduates have the most sought-after skills. For both the bachelor's and master's degrees, students can choose a research project or a project resulting from their internship as part of their degree.

The degree programme includes a mobility period of at least 6 months (in the case of Sea-BluE, this period is at least 12 months). This means that students of the joint SEA-EU degree programmes will spend at least one semester at another SEA-EU partner university by the sea. The aim of this mobility period may be, among other things, to The University of Cádiz (Spain), the University of Western Brittany in Brest (France), the University of Split (Croatia), the University of Malta or the University of Nord (Norway). It is worth noting that in most cases, the main host institution is not the University of Gdańsk, but one of the other SEA-EU partner universities.

As part of the SEA-EU alliance, we have been increasing the internationalisation of the University of Gdańsk for 5 years now. Today, we are pleased to present a fully international range of studies, which is an initiative of the coastal alliance from start to finish. This is proof of the growing strength of our cooperation!,’ says Vice-Rector for Cooperation and International Relations dr hab. Anna Jurkowska-Zeidler, prof. UG.Every year it becomes more and more apparent that the future of European education lies in alliances of European universities. It is thanks to this programme that we are implementing ambitious projects and introducing innovations to Polish universities.’
