The University of Gdańsk has moved up five places and now ranks 11th among all academic universities in Poland according to the latest PERSPEKTYWY ranking! The Ranking Committee recognised the spectacular development of the University of Gdańsk by awarding it the ‘Advancement 2025’ prize. Among classical universities, the University of Gdańsk maintains its high 4th place. As many as 17 fields of study offered at the University of Gdańsk were classified among the top ten best fields of study in the country - the greatest success was achieved by Biotechnology, which ranked 3rd in Poland!
This year's edition of the Perspektywy Higher Education Ranking is based on the same methodology as last year, with the same set of seven criteria. The main criteria and their weighting in the final assessment are: scientific effectiveness (30% weight in the final assessment), internationalisation (15%), scientific potential (13%), prestige and graduates on the labour market (both with a weight of 12%), educational conditions (10%) and innovation (8%).
The University of Gdańsk performed best in the Academic Prestige criterion, ranking 8th among all academic institutions and improving its position by 5 places compared to last year's edition.

‘The University of Gdańsk's rise to 11th place, 5 places up, in the Perspektywy 2025 University Ranking is a huge success for us, a source of pride and proof of the importance of consistent teamwork by the entire academic community. It is their commitment and professionalism that allow us to develop a modern, open and innovative university, which is at the forefront of Polish higher education institutions,’ said UG Rector prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski. ‘When I began my mission as Rector of the University of Gdańsk in 2020, we were ranked 28th in the Perspektywy ranking and 8th in the university classification. We knew that we were capable of much more, and we mustered the incredible strength that has brought us to where we are today! This promotion gives us new energy and motivation for further action. This ranking confirms that we are a university that sets the highest standards in science and teaching, cooperates intensively with business and actively builds its position on the international arena. I am also pleased that, despite the high and demanding competition, we maintain our strong position among the leading classical universities. As President of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities, I closely follow the dynamic development of all member universities, and I know what a challenge it is to maintain our current position and high rating by the Perspektywy Ranking Committee. This is a confirmation of the high quality of education, research and international activity at our university.’
The Biotechnology programme, offered by the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology UG and MUG, ranked highest among all programmes offered at our university, third in Poland, behind only the Jagiellonian University and the University of Warsaw. The programme maintained its ranking from last year.
The programmes ranked fourth last year - Cultural Studies and Environmental Protection - were joined in 2025 by Administration, Law (both up from eighth place), Computer Science and Econometrics (up three places) and Biology (up one place). The following fields were ranked 5th in this year's edition of the ranking: History, Security Studies (confirming last year's position), Political Science (up from 9th place), Computer Science and Geography (up 2 and 1 places, respectively). In 2025, the following fields of study were ranked 6th: Archaeology, Sociology (both up from 9th place), Physics (up 2 places), Psychology and Spatial Management.
Last year, the University of Gdańsk was represented by 10 fields of study in the 1-6 range. In the latest edition, we already have 17 fields of study in this range of the highest-rated fields!
‘I would like to thank the entire academic community of the University of Gdańsk for this success - it is our joint achievement and the foundation for future challenges!’ summed up Rector prof. Piotr Stepnowski.
