Cooperation in the field of renaturation of dune habitats in areas covered by the LIFE for Dunes PL project located within the technical zone of the Maritime Office in Gdynia was the subject of an agreement signed between the University of Gdańsk and the Maritime Office. The cooperation agreement regulates the scope of activities carried out at specific sites and the support that the Maritime Office in Gdynia, an associate partner of the project, will provide in the implementation of the tasks.
The signatories of the agreement, signed on 17 October 2025, were the Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Gdańsk, prof. dr hab. Wiesław Laskowski, and the Director of the Maritime Office in Gdynia, mgr Anna Stelmaszyk-Świerczyńska. The document regulates the scope of cooperation in eleven sections of the coast located within the Natura 2000 coastal areas in the Pomeranian Province.
The University of Gdańsk, which is leading the LIFE for Dunes PL project headed by dr Magdalena Lazarus, has committed to carrying out activities resulting from the project's objectives, including:
- removing individuals of geographically alien species,
- rejuvenating coastal dune habitats,
- removing plant species that are ecologically alien to dune habitats,
- installing fences in selected locations (to direct tourist traffic and prevent people from leaving the officially accessible trails) and putting up information boards.
The Maritime Office in Gdynia undertook, among other things, to make selected sections of the technical strip available for the implementation of project works and to monitor the effects of the measures taken (including making it available to volunteers carrying out project works), to allow the installation of permanent information boards about the project in designated locations, and to provide substantive assistance within the scope of its competences (including support in designating reference areas of habitats for renaturation and developing a methodology for the work).
The Project Implementation Support Office of the University of Gdańsk assisted in the preparation and signing of the agreement.
