The results of the fourth edition of the Academic Citizens' Budget and the second edition of the Green University of Gdańsk are in! Five ACB UG projects (three employee and two student projects) and two projects submitted to the Green University competition will be implemented. To date, nearly 17,000 people have voted in all four editions of ACB UG, and a total of 12 projects have been implemented on the university campuses in Gdańsk-Oliwa and Sopot. Over 2,800 people voted in the two editions of Green UG, and five projects selected in the first edition have been implemented so far.

ACB UG

A total of 2,122 people (702 employees and 1,420 doctoral students and students) took part in the vote on projects submitted to the Academic Citizens' Budget. A total of 3,512 votes were cast, which were converted into points in accordance with the adopted weighting system, designed to equalise the chances of all participants in the competition.

Among the staff projects, the highest number of points was awarded to ‘A friendly place for meetings, rest and inspiration in front of the Faculty of Chemistry building’, submitted by Magda Kozak from the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Chemistry (cost: PLN 30,000). The project involves developing the space in front of the Faculty of Chemistry building by installing wooden benches integrated with the amphitheatre and purchasing decorative plants. Second place went to ‘Purchase of pedal boats for the UG Recreation Centre in Łączyno’, submitted by Monika Formela, Head of the Kashubian Campus Buildings Facilities Unit (cost: PLN 35,000).

Third place in terms of points went to the project ‘Leisure gazebo at the UG Recreation Centre in Łączyno’, also authored by Monika Formela (cost: PLN 50,000). There was a shortfall of PLN 15,000 from the basic pool for the implementation of the project (the total cost of the two highest-scoring projects was PLN 65,000, so the budget reserve was PLN 35,000), However, in accordance with paragraph 9 of Rector's Decree No. 52/R/25 of the Rector of the University of Gdańsk of 1 April 2025, the Rector of the University of Gdańsk prof. Piotr Stepnowski decided to increase the pool of funds, thanks to which the third project will also be implemented.

The project that received the most points among those submitted by students was ‘Biotech Chillzone - your campus refuge’ by Mateusz Dynakowski, a student of the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology UG and MUG (cost: PLN 48,535). It involves creating a friendly space for relaxation and study on the lawn next to the IFB building, equipped with deckchairs, a garden swing, an urban hammock, a sunshade, and picnic tables with benches. Second place went to the project ‘Plan for a university-wide ZERO-STRESS zone at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk - continuation’, submitted by WPiA student Michał Twork (cost: PLN 49,949). As part of this project, further arrangements will be made to create a cosy relaxation area in the corridor from Auditorium B to the exit door, created thanks to the winning student project in ACB UG 2022.

Green UG

In the Green University of Gdańsk Competition, employees, students, and doctoral students submitted their projects in mixed teams consisting of at least one student or doctoral student and one academic teacher or administrative employee of the University of Gdańsk. This year, 942 people (455 employees and 487 students and doctoral students) voted for the submitted projects. A total of 1,678 votes were cast.

The project that received the most votes was ‘Green work and relaxation zones in four buildings of the University of Gdańsk’, whose main applicant was Aleksandra Hołomej from the Faculty of Languages Dean’s Office (cost: PLN 40,000). It involves the creation of green work and relaxation zones in four buildings of the University of Gdańsk located in the Faculty of Languages and the Faculty of History (these are: the Modern Languages building, the Faculty of Languages and the Faculty of History building, the Faculty of Languages building at 58 Wita Stwosza Street, the building of the Faculty of History at ul. Bielańska 5), taking into account the existing infrastructure.

Second place went to the project ‘WZR Wellbeing Zone & Relax’ (cost: PLN 35,400), an initiative of students from the Faculty of Management to create a friendly space for rest, study and integration in the Faculty building. The main applicant for the project was the Vice-Dean for Internationalisation and Development of the Faculty of Management, dr hab. Anna Dziadkiewicz, prof. UG.

Green UG is an initiative supporting the green transformation of the University of Gdańsk, implemented as part of the SEA-EU 2.0 project financed by Erasmus+ (task 4.4 - SEA-EU Goes Greener). In its current form, the competition was held for the last time, in accordance with the assumptions.

Announcement of the results

The results of the voting in both competitions were announced during a ceremonial summary on 4 November 2025. The part concerning ACB UG was led by Piotr Szpajer from CPC UG, while the part related to Green UG was led by Szymon Gronowski from the Centre for Sustainable Development at UG. The Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, dr hab. Urszula Patocka-Sigłowy, prof. UG, and the Coordinator of task 4.4 within SEA-EU 2.0, dr hab. Sylwia Mrozowska, prof. UG, presented small gifts to the authors of the winning projects.

Dr hab. Sylwia Mrozowska, prof. UG, and Piotr Szpajer, Coordinator of ACB UG, thanked the authors of the projects, the voters, and the employees who devoted their time to verifying the ACB UG and Green UG projects. Special thanks for their help in organising the competitions were given to the Deputy Director of the IT Centre, Marcin Białek, and to the employees of the following departments:

• Department of Student and Staff Residences and Assistant Hotels;
