‘Library. I like being here!’ - this is the slogan of Library Week 2025, which will be held from May 8 to 15. The University of Gdańsk Library is also participating in the programme! We encourage you to take advantage of the attractions we have prepared!
Library Week is a nationwide campaign to promote reading and libraries, organised and coordinated by the Polish Librarians' Association. Each edition has a different slogan, chosen by the Association's Executive Board.
The programme's history is linked to Poland's membership of the European Union. The first Library Week, under the slogan ‘Libraries in Europe have always been there’, took place in 2004, when 10 countries, including Poland, joined the European community.
This year's slogan - “Library. I like being here!” - encourages people to enjoy spending time in libraries and using their resources. What do the libraries of the University of Gdańsk have to offer?
MAY 8-9 (Thursday-Friday) - Evening learning at the Main Library of the University of Gdańsk
As part of Library Week, we are opening the Main Library until midnight! If you like studying at night, this is the perfect place and opportunity. The entire first floor will be available, and in the former Akapit bar, you will be able to make coffee or heat up a meal.
MAY 8 (Thursday) - Main Library, room 1.21
‘L’ as a letter - art workshops for primary school students (grades 0-VI), 9:00-10:30, 11:00-12:30, 13:00-14:30
Young calligraphers will create their own decorative initials in the spirit of less waste - from old newspapers and bookbinding materials. Letters of various shapes will be printed using the calcography method. The result will be one-of-a-kind works, each different and unique, just like their authors. During the classes, children will learn about the history of writing, as well as about old printing techniques and modern typography.
