Following Prime Minister Donald Tusk's decision to reorganise the government, Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda has been appointed Minister of Health. The Minister is a graduate of law at the University of Gdańsk. She also obtained a PhD in social sciences in the field of economics and finance at our university.
In 2024, dr Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda defended her doctoral dissertation entitled 'The hypothesis of management inefficiency - empirical verification on the example of the restructuring process of local government healthcare entities in the Pomeranian Province in 2011-2019', written under the supervision of dr hab. Anna Zamojska, prof. UG. Dr Sebastian Susmarski was the assistant supervisor. In her research, dr J. Sobierańska-Grenda drew on her own experience of the restructuring process of hospitals in Pomerania.
The new Minister of Health has extensive experience in public health care. For several years, she served as Director of the Health Department at the Marshal's Office of the Pomeranian Province. In 2017, she was appointed President of the Management Board of the local government company Szpitale Pomorskie. In 2025, she was awarded the Woman of the Health Market 2025 award. During her professional career to date, she has successfully restructured and cleared the debts of several dozen hospitals.
