We see it happening, but we look away. We want to react, but we stay silent. We know we need to act, but we don’t know how. Do you want to overcome that feeling of helplessness and learn how to stand up to such situations? Join us for the free training session ‘How to respond to harassment in public spaces’, taking place at the Faculty of History, University of Gdańsk, on 13 and 17 April!

In Poland, 84% of women have experienced harassment in public places, either once or on multiple occasions. In only 31% of cases did someone offer them support. As many as 86% of people who witness harassment do not know how to react in such situations. These figures come from a survey conducted by Ipsos in 2021 for the L’Oréal Paris brand. Free training session ‘How to respond to harassment in public spaces' is led by trainers from the Feminoteka foundation and part of the global campaign ‘Stand Up. Say No to Harassment in Public Spaces’.

Participants in the training will learn how to respond safely to harassment, both when they witness it and when they are the ones experiencing such situations. The training will define unwanted behaviour, discuss specific cases and ways of responding (the 5D method). Training of this kind is a vital part of building awareness and a sense of safety both in the workplace and in private life. It is essential in the context of implementing anti-discrimination policy,’ says dr hab. Katarzyna Mirgos, prof. UG from the Institute of Anthropology at the Faculty of History, University of Gdańsk.

The training teaches how to stop being a ‘helpless bystander’ and how to react safely when we witness harassment or experience it ourselves. This is a tangible step towards increasing safety in our local community.

If you want to stand up against harassment in public places, take part in the 5D method training! DISTRACT - DELEGATE - DELAY - DOCUMENT - DIRECT.

The training is open to everyone, regardless of gender identity. Each of us can help make public spaces safer.

You can receive a certificate confirming your participation in the training.
