It’s time to vote for projects in the 5th edition of the Academic Citizens' Budget!

Twenty-one projects - including five in the new ‘Events’ category - have been shortlisted for voting in this year’s edition of the University of Gdańsk’s Academic Citizens' Budget! Do you want to see new relaxation and collaborative work areas created on campus, green initiatives developed, or perhaps classrooms equipped with modern facilities? Would you rather take part in a student social event or watch a film? Vote for your chosen projects in the ACB UG by 26 October this year and have a say in what your surroundings look like and what happens on our campuses!

From the 23 projects submitted for this year’s edition of ACB UG (5 event proposals and 18 other ideas), the competition committee - following the voluntary withdrawal of two projects by the applicants - has shortlisted a total of 21 ideas for the voting stage: 5 in the ‘events’ category and 16 projects relating to the infrastructure and facilities of university buildings.

A list of all the projects you can vote for in both categories can be found in the tables below the text (in Polish).

Voting on ACB UG, which will run until Monday 26 October (23:59), is conducted as every year electronically via the Employee Portal and the Student Portal, in the Academic Citizens' Budget section. To cast your vote for your chosen projects, after logging in and accessing the ACB UG panel, select the VOTE (GŁOSUJ) tab, where you will find the electronic ballot paper.

This year, in accordance with the amended Competition Rules, the distinction between staff and student/PhD projects has been abolished. Every member of the University of Gdańsk academic community may vote for 3 ACB UG projects in the INFRASTRUCTURE category and for 3 selected ideas in the EVENTS category. The results of the vote will be announced by 6 November.

We encourage you to take an active part in the voting!

ACB UG - completed projects

This is already the 5th edition of our annual competition. In the four previous editions of ACB UG, 15 projects - previously selected by our university’s academic community - have been implemented across the university campuses in Gdańsk-Oliwa and Sopot.

Among last year’s student ideas was “Biotech Chillzone - your campus retreat” by Mateusz Dynakowski, a student at the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology UG and MUG. Thanks to the realisation of this project, a welcoming space for relaxation and study has been created on the lawn next to the IFB building, equipped with, amongst other things, sun loungers, tables and picnic benches. Here, you can relax, have a meal or play board games, but above all, spend your free time between classes.

The second student project to be completed is “Plan for a university-wide ZERO-STRESS zone at the Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Gdańsk - continuation”, submitted by WPiA student Michał Tworek.
As part of this project, the next stage of creating a cosy relaxation area in the section of the corridor stretching from Auditorium B to the exit door was carried out; this area had previously been established thanks to the winning student project in the ACB UG 2022 competition.

Of the three staff projects selected last year, the project by Monika Formela - Head of the Kashubian Campus Buildings Facilities Unit - was implemented this spring, resulting in the purchase of two pedalos for the University of Gdańsk Leisure Centre in Łączyno.

The second of the staff projects - “A welcoming place for meetings, relaxation and inspiration in front of the Faculty of Chemistry building”, by Magda Kozak from the Office of the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry - is in its final stages. Thanks to this project, the area in front of the Faculty of Chemistry building has been given an attractive new look and a new recreational function.
As part of the project, wooden benches integrated into the amphitheatre have been installed; planters featuring arrangements of ornamental plants will soon be added to the area.

The last of last year’s selected staff projects, also designed by Monika Formela - “A gazebo at the University of Gdańsk Holiday Centre in Łączyno” - is currently at the stage of finalising the formalities necessary for its implementation.
