The unique ‘UGreen Fashion’ show, which had the character of a competition and promoted the ideas of recycling and a conscious, sustainable approach to fashion, took place on 19 March 2025 in the building of the Main Library of the University of Gdańsk. The initiative was organised by the University of Gdańsk's Centre for Student and Doctoral Activities in cooperation with the University's Cooperation and International Relations Office.
The aim of the competition was not only to present the creativity of students but also to educate about sustainable fashion and show that recycled materials can become an element of styling at the highest level. The jury evaluated the projects according to the following criteria: creativity, technique of execution, compliance with the theme of the competition and the degree of use of recycled materials. The jury consisted of:
- dr hab. Urszula Patocka-Sigłowy, prof. UG - Vice-Rector for Student Affairs at the University of Gdańsk,
- dr hab. inż. Aneta Oniszczuk-Jastrząbek, prof. UG - Chancellor of the University of Gdańsk,
- dr hab. Arnold Kłonczyński, prof. UG - Director of the University of Gdańsk Library,
- Magdalena Zieniutycz - representative of the University of Gdańsk Cooperation and International Relations Office,
- Joanna Pleskot - representative of the University of Gdańsk Cooperation and International Relations Office.
Six students took part in the competition, creating original designs in line with the zero waste philosophy. After a heated debate, the jury awarded the following designers:
- 1st place - Adriana Bobkowska (prize of 1500 PLN),
- 2nd place - Katarzyna Żamojda (prize of 1000 PLN),
- 3rd place - Veranika Barkouskaya (prize of 500 PLN).
In addition, the Cooperation and International Relations Office honoured Aleksandra Zięcina for her exceptional approach to the competition topic.
During the award ceremony, the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Dr hab. Urszula Patocka-Sigłowy, Prof. UG, emphasised the extraordinary quality and practicality of the projects presented:
‘We did not expect that it would take us so long to make a decision and that we would have such a lively discussion. Some of the outfits could be used immediately - and we also noticed and emphasised that. I wonder which ones we will see on campus tomorrow?’
UG Chancellor dr hab. inż. Aneta Oniszczuk-Jastrząbek, prof. UG, emphasised how difficult it was to choose among such creative and innovative projects.
The first edition of ‘UGreen Fashion’ proved that fashion and ecology can go hand in hand, inspiring a conscious approach to clothes and their reuse. The organisers are announcing the next edition of the event next year - we are looking forward to even more ideas and creative projects!
